No answering service, no dispatcher. Whoever picks up after hours is the one who shows up with the gauges. Tell us what it's doing, what you've tried and how hot it's getting inside.

Check these before you call

1. Thermostat. Set to cool, set below the room temperature, screen lit up. A blank screen usually means dead batteries or no power to the system.

2. Breakers. Check the breakers for the air handler and the condenser. You can reset a tripped breaker one time. Trips a second time, something's shorted or overloaded, so don't keep flipping it.

3. Filter. Pull it out. If it's gray and caked with dust, put a new one in. A plugged filter will freeze the coil.

4. Float switch. A lot of air handlers have a float switch in the pan or on the drain line. When the drain backs up, it kills the system on purpose. Water sitting in the pan usually means that's why it shut off.

Don't open the panels on the condenser or the air handler. There's high voltage in both.

What an after hours call costs

After 5pm and on weekends the diagnostic is $150. Weekdays before 5pm it's $95. That's the same no matter what time we roll up at night, and you get the repair price before we fix anything.

Shut it off and leave it off if

You smell burning, see smoke, the breaker won't hold, or water is coming through the ceiling. Turn it off at the thermostat and wait for us. Running it can turn a capacitor job into a compressor job.

Heat is a health issue

Florida heat is dangerous for babies, older adults, anyone with health problems and pets. If the house is getting hot and someone at home is at risk, get them somewhere cool first. Then call.
