Heating and Heat Pumps
Most homes around here heat with a heat pump, electric heat strips or both. They sit there most of the year doing nothing, which is exactly why they act up the first cold morning. We repair and maintain heat pumps and heat strips on all major brands, and we check them on every ComfortCare tune-up.
What we work on
- Heat pumps that won't switch over to heat
- Electric heat strips and sequencers
- Reversing valves and defrost controls
- Thermostats that won't stage the heat
- Cold air coming out in heat mode
- Power bills that jump every cold front
A little smell is normal
The first time the heat runs each year, dust on the heat strips burns off and you'll smell it for a few minutes. If the smell is strong, sticks around or smells like plastic or wiring, shut the system off at the thermostat and call us.
Heat pump or heat strips
A heat pump moves heat instead of making it, so it's the cheap way to warm the house. Heat strips are the backup for colder mornings or when the heat pump needs help. If your bill spikes every time it gets cool, the strips may be doing all the work. Usually that's a heat pump problem or a thermostat set up wrong.
Checked on every tune-up
Every ComfortCare tune-up checks the heat side too: heat strips and sequencers, the reversing valve and defrost, and the thermostat's heat mode. Not on the plan? A one-time tune-up is $150.
